BATTERY REFURBISHMENT

Safe Battery Refurbishment & Repair

At Piffers, we refurbish and repair suitable small EV lithium ion battery systems through controlled workshop procedures.

Our refurbishment service is designed for batteries where diagnostics show that repair is safe, practical and worthwhile.

What Battery Refurbishment Can Include

Depending on the condition of the battery, refurbishment work may include:

  • Cell replacement
    • BMS replacement
    • Internal wiring repair
    • Connector replacement
    • Nickel strip replacement
    • Battery balancing
    • Rebuilding and insulation
    • Casing checks and safe reassembly
    • Final testing and validation

We do not treat every battery the same. Each battery is assessed individually before any repair work is confirmed.

Refurbishment Process

1. Diagnostic Review

We begin by reviewing the diagnostic results and confirming whether the battery is suitable for refurbishment.

2. Safe Opening and Inspection

Where appropriate, the battery casing is opened in a controlled workshop area. Internal wiring, BMS, cells and insulation are inspected.

3. Repair or Replacement Work

Faulty or degraded components are replaced where suitable. This may include cells, wiring, connectors, nickel strips or the battery management system.

4. Rebuild and Insulation

The battery pack is rebuilt using appropriate insulation and safe internal layout. Care is taken to reduce short circuit risk and support safe operation.

5. Final Testing

The battery is tested after repair to check voltage, charging, discharge performance, temperature behaviour and general safety.

Safety Focused Workshop

Lithium ion battery refurbishment requires specialist handling and safety systems.

Our workshop includes:

  • Fire resistant battery storage
    • ESD protected workstations
    • Battery testing systems
    • Controlled repair areas
    • Isolation procedures
    • Fire blankets and safety equipment
    • Dedicated battery handling protocols

Safety remains central to every stage of the refurbishment process.

When Refurbishment May Not Be Suitable

Some batteries should not be repaired. This may include batteries that are:

  • Swollen
    • Leaking
    • Burnt or heat damaged
    • Severely water damaged
    • Internally shorted
    • Heavily physically damaged
    • Previously modified in an unsafe way

Where a battery is considered unsafe or beyond viable repair, we will advise clearly and will not proceed with unsuitable repair work.

Why Refurbish a Battery

Refurbishment can help:

  • Reduce battery waste
    • Lower replacement costs
    • Extend battery lifespan
    • Improve performance where repair is suitable
    • Support sustainable electric mobility
